Betsy O’Connor has been back from Hawaii for almost a week and has spent some of that time home reading your wonderful posts on my previous blog about her retirement.
She has been deeply moved and here is her response…
Dear Friends:
I have spent the last couple of days wracking my brain, trying to decide how I can possibly express what you’ve given me…..so MANY kind words, good wishes and sweet farewells. There really are no words. You’ve touched my heart and for that I thank you…..from the bottom of my heart.
This is going to be an adjustment for sure! Weaning myself off of radio….wonderful listeners….and my everyday close friendship and
camaraderie with Hoyt is going to be a challenge. But I leave with a
heart bursting from your wonderful notes. Thank you……
Sincerely,
Betsy

Much as I love Hoyt Smith, his program just isn’t the same without Betsy. The two of them had such great chemistry they made waking up almost a pleasure. I was off traveling when Betsy’s retirement was announced, and coming back to no Betsy was a real letdown.

Dear Fair Lady…
After you’ve settled into retirement, surprise us with a visit to Hoyt some morning.
Your voice would be much welcomed by all.

Beloved Betsy -
You more than deserve every sweet word that was lavished on you. I am very much missing your wonderful voice on the radio every morning, and the amazing news that you would find God-knows-where. May your new life be full of peace, love, joy, and abundance. Much love, Arisa Victor/Granny Rainbow

Dear Betsy ~
You have been a wonderful addition to our mornings for so long. Thank you for all the news, traffic reports and, especially, the light-hearted banter you and Hoyt shared at the start of each day. You, Hoyt and a steaming cup of coffee brightened our days. Thank you and warmest wishes for wonderful days ahead.

So sorry to hear that you have left, but I suspect that you will find lots of good stuff with which to fill your time. Thanks for all the good years and camaraderie with Hoyt. I like the back and forth and will miss that. I remember when Dusty left and I missed her, so I suppose we will all miss you more. They say that the only that’s permanent is change, but its always kind of a shock. I really hate it when people on radio and TV just sort of disappear with no trace, so it is nice to know that you have retired.
Thanks again and enjoy yourself!

I echo all the comments above, and probably all those to come. If an echo can be louder that its source, I’m all for that.
Best wishes to you, Betsy, as your life unfolds and another page of its map opens up. You are missed. Sue

Betsy – already the morning show is not the same without you. I don’t hear the news updates and the traffic report anymore. You had a special sounding voice, humorous, and you were organized. Enjoy your retirement. My husband and I as well as my dentist will miss you. Take care and I will always remember your voice and your contribution to the morning show.

Dear Betsy,
I have listened to you and Hoyt in the morning for years now. I can hardly believe you won’t be back. I keep listening for your voice to pop in on the morning show with Hoyt. I remember so many mornings you would bring a smile to my face with your stories and comments back to Hoyt. I’ll never forget the time….a long time ago, that you and Hoyt were laughing so hard, there was silence on the air for quite a while. It was priceless and I was laughing with you at home. I wish you the best.
From one of your best fans,
Jill

Betsy:
I selfishly want you to come back.
Hoyt is great, but the two of you were a team and we all loved the “duet” you did every morning.
You two were the best thing on morning radio – across the entire dial. We’ll miss you terribly.

Betsy…I just love you. That’s all I can say. Much happiness in you life in the days and years to come. You and Bob and your family enjoy all the good and wonderful things. You have given those items to us with your sweet voice and personality over the air waves. It was a truely great pleasure to know you. Percy

Dear Betsy, HAPPY RETIREMENT!!! How my husband and I will miss that wonderful laugh. The joy this wonderful station brings us is invaluable. Can someone just record Betsy’s laugh and put it on CD’s with your favorite bantering with Hoyt? We would purchase it in a heart beat. All our best to your future Betsy. Would you like to come to a pot luck at our home? We invite poets on occasion to read, talk and LAUGH on occasion. Donna belongs to the MARIN POETRY CENTER in San Rafael. Please e-mail me if you can join us to hear that LAUGH in person.

Betsy, All the best to you in your retirement. You will be greatly missed….especially that wonderful laugh that added so much to help start the day with a smile. As someone said in another message above, please surprise us all and stop in to see Hoyt from time to time. In the meantime….ENJOY!

Dear Betsy,
Those messages before have said it all and very well. I continue to love the HS morning programming best but I do really miss the relationship you two shared on air. He seems a bit somber since you left. Not quite as many fun newsy tidbits of interest. The traffic report served an important purpose for those of us listening during our daily morning commute.
Best of everything to you and those you love for many years to come.

Yes! It was a fine surprise to hear you, Hoyt, and Betsy O’Connor chatting this morning. Not the same banter, but a pleasure nonetheless. Looking forward to more.

Dear Betsy,
My daughter Rachelle and I had been listening to you and Hoyt last 3 years. We had been almost like family. We would turn on our radio to enjoy that morning ride to school. You and Hoyt had been really part of our life, we loved the interaction and the fun you too had. It really has not been the same since you are gone and even if we want to hear Hoyt without you it is like he is
a chair with 3 legs, it is missing the sweet jokes, \ladder of the day\ fun, your infectious laugh.
Please if you are reading this, consider coming back. We would love to hear you and Hoyt together again. Enjoy your retirement but I will be selfish and ask for you to come back.
Love from Zeynep and Rachelle Koch

Betsy,
I join your legions of fans who wish you all the best – and who already miss you greatly! Specifically, I miss your welcoming voice in the mornings as well as your informative, intelligent commentary and fun, laugh-out-loud repartee with Hoyt(not an easy feat before my morning coffee, but you two always accomplished it!). Wishing you much happiness and many blessings~
